Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) announced the formation of a task force dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship in Greene county. The task force will encourage the development of new or existing small businesses within the county.
The task force members will promote Greene county as entrepreneur-friently through public education and awareness activities, organize networking opportunities for entrepreneurs, and initiate contact with Greene county high school graduates concerning entrepreneurship opportunities in the county. More projects and activities may be added in the future.
"GCDC has long worked to attract new large employers and industries to the county, as well as partnering with existing large businesses to help with their growth and expansion needs." said Rick Morain, GCDC president. "Working with a consultant last fall, GCDC members recognized that individuals and smaller businesses may need information and assistnce from us to start a business or help their business grow."
The idea for the entrepreneruship task force grew out of that realization, and several GCDC board members volunteered to serve as the initial task force members.
Sid Jones, executive vice president of Home State Bank, and Rick Bonander, Adisseo business manager, serve as co-chairs of the task force. Other members are John L. Clark of Genesis Development and David Hoyt, Jefferson attorney.
Jim Gossett, executive director of the Carroll Area Development Corporation, was the guest speaker at a recent meeting. He discussed Carroll's implementation of a computer entrepreneurship program and existing networking opportunities.
